Alasdair Cowan Lumsden
September 10, 1965 - January 13, 2015
Tribute
Al passed away peacefully at home on Monday January 12, 2015, in his 50th year. Son of the late David and Aileen Lumsden, brother of Kyle (Melanie) Lumsden, loving friend to Sierra MacDougall – being a part of her life was one of his life’s greatest privileges.
Al was born in Vancouver and raised in Richmond, BC. He moved to Powell River in the summer of 1995. He started his life here as an LPN at ECU and later moved to the Medical Surgical Unit. He was a compassionate and dedicated nurse, serving Powell River General Hospital for 20 years. He proudly followed in his mother’s nursing footsteps. Al also served as a BC Nurses' Union steward and treasurer for two terms. His co-workers describe him as soft-spoken, kind, diligent, and passionate. He was a great comfort to many patients and their families.
Al adopted a love for cruising from his father. He was fortunate enough to see the world and make many lasting friendships along the way. Al’s ashes will be scattered at sea… via cruise ship!
He will be fondly remembered for his sarcastic quick wit, great smile, and hot sauce collection. He was also very tech savvy and sincerely cared for his online friends. Dinner parties and walks on the trail will not be the same without him. He had a way of making everyone he met feel special and important. He will be missed by many people from around the world.
A memorial service was held Saturday, January 24. Special thanks to Kath-Ann Terrett and Liana Cole for Al’s friendship, care and memorial arrangements. Thank you to Powell River General Hospital for providing the venue, muffins, and refreshments for the memorial.
{C}Lastly, thank you to everyone who came to honour Alisdair with food and memories.
Memorial contributions to the Powell River Hospital Foundation and BC Mental Health & Substance Use Services are welcome.
