Anne Louise Layton

October 18, 1925 - April 20, 2012

Tribute

The family of Louise Layton is sad to announce Louise”s death, April 20, 2012. She passed away peacefully at home in Powell River. She is survived by her four children Melinda (Keith), Jeannie (Bruce), Nancy (Ben), Billy (Lorelei), grandchildren Fraser, Kelsey, Rhonda, Nikki, Amy, Jesse, Lukah, Sierra, Storey, Fayre, Hayes and Yellowbird and great-grandchildren Josh, Dylan and Jervis.

Born and raised in rural Saskatchewan, Louise moved to Vancouver where the stylish, golden-haired beauty enjoyed city life by the sea.

In radio school, the line, “there’s a seat back here, blondie!” led to marriage and four children. Louise was a stay-at-home mum and gave her life to her husband and children, sewing, knitting and cooking fabulous meals.

Building a cabin on Gambier Island shone light on her machete-wielding, salal-burning and wood-chopping skills, not to mention her ability to back a boat down the ramp “like a man.”

In the mid-’80s she and Bill spent a couple of sun- and fun-filled years in Australia. Upon their return to Canada, Bill and Louise relocated to Horseshoe Bay where she joined the local seniors’ woodworking class and eventually became an instructor.

In 2003, Louise moved to Powell River. As the proud matriarch of Nancy’s Bakery, she enjoyed making new friends and was often the life of the party!

Thanks to all of you who made her last years so rich. Lastly, thanks to great-grandson Jervis Rose for the love and laughter he brought to her last year.

Louise, you were loved and will be sorely missed.

In the silence many memories of the heart will be written!
