Arnold Lloyd Maedel

February 16, 1933 - January 5, 2022

Tribute

It is with heavy hearts that we share the loss of our beloved dad, Lloyd, who passed away peacefully at home with “main man” son Reid, present.

Lloyd was born in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan, and lived on the farm where he developed his love of animals. He moved to Vancouver with his family in 1941 and they eventually settled in Burnaby. Lloyd excelled in school athletics and met our mom, Shirley, while  competing on rival Burnaby track teams when they were just 16 years of age. He was married to the “love of his life” for 55 years.

Mom and dad settled in Powell River and raised three children.  Dad worked on the paper machines at the mill, where he met many lifelong friends and retired a boss 41 years later. In his spare time, Lloyd enjoyed coaching numerous youth sports teams and loved spending time with family and friends on Powell Lake, Savary Island and while boating.

Dad’s generous spirit, sense of humour, appreciation of life and gratitude was intact when he left this world and we believe he will forever be dancing with mom while humming along to Sinatra.

Lloyd was predeceased by his wife Shirley, his brother Billy and his mom and dad, Audrey and Arnold. He is survived by his sister Gail and family, his children Teal, Reid (Riitta) and Cole (Linda); grandchildren Maxine, Stephanie, Ashley and Tiana; and great-grandchildren Sage and Amelia.

The family greatly appreciates the kind care dad received from both the palliative home caregivers and fourth floor nursing staff at Powell River General Hospital, along with Dr. Meyer and Lilia Cardoso-Gould.

A celebration of life will be held for Lloyd in the summer.
