Audrey Kathleen Wood
April 9, 1922 - February 27, 2011
Tribute
Audrey passed away peacefully in her sleep early Sunday morning, February 27. She maintained her cheerful, sweet disposition to her last day and we will all miss her so much.
Audrey grew up in Vancouver, the youngest child, doted on by her parents and older sisters. She moved to Sechelt with her mom and dad when she was 15 and there met her beloved Bob. They married in 1940 and then faced a long separation of four years while Bob served overseas during World War ll. On his return they made their way to Powell River after a brief sojourn, at first to Bralorne, BC and then Texada Island. The family’s first home was in Cranberry where mom pushed buggies up and down Dale Avenue to Mowat Bay or Cranberry Lake. In 1955 we moved to Westview where mom continued to provide a loving home.
She had a wonderful gift for music. She whistled and sang as she bustled about the house and who could play the piano like mom? Not able to read a note, she could set any toes tapping as her fingers danced over the keys, playing lively fun tunes. Mom never demanded but always gave. Thanks mom, for the precious memories.
Audrey was the last surviving member of her family. She was predeceased by her husband Bob, siblings Dorothy, Olive, Elise, Ken, Aime and Bill. She leaves to mourn her children Ken, Kathy (Fritz), Alan (Gina) and John (Niki) as well as her six grandchildren Evelyn, Angela, Dan, Lisa, Alan and Marissa and her 10 great-grandchildren.
Our family would like to thank everyone at Kiwanis Garden Manor for the care they extended to mom. It was second to none. What amazingly loving and caring people. Mom so enjoyed her home there and always felt safe and loved. Her fellow residents were like family. Thank you from the depths of our hearts.
A tea was held in her honour on Tuesday, March 8 and the family will have a special gathering in the summer in mom’s memory.
