Brinsley (Brin) Richard Thomas Wilson

June 2, 1945 - December 22, 2021

Tribute

Brin passed away peacefully in Powell River on December 22, with loved ones nearby. Brin was born in Dublin, Ireland, to his father, Rex, and his mother, Iris, where he lived to the age of 22. He and his wife, Daphne, then immigrated to Canada and settled in Powell River to start a new life. Brin was a high school teacher and taught English, French and social studies in Powell River until he retired in 1988. Brin was a great promoter and participant of Far-Off Broadway when it first formed in 1986, and one of the founders of Theatre Now! at its inception in 1994. He was instrumental in organizing theatre sports and improvisation at the Unitarian log cabin on Joyce Avenue. Brin was very much a family man; he loved taking his family hiking and skiing and with his then wife Daphne, built a beautiful home south of town for his children to grow up in. Brin also had a great love of books and writing. He wrote Artscene in the Powell River News for many years and had a small book of poems co-written with Richard Wright called Swimming Downstream . Brin was predeceased by his grandson Matt. He leaves behind his son Ciaran, daughters Heather and Rachel, grandchildren Heather, Simon and Ciara, and former wife Daphne Wilson. Thank you to Richard Wright, Brin’s longtime friend and caregiver who always gave him a voice to be heard. Thank you, Dr. Macdonald, for the many years of care and support. Thank you, Paul Wiltse, longtime friend of Brin and an integral part of Brin’s life. Thank you to his many friends in this community; we know he will be missed. As for his children, we will miss our father, our hero. As Richard says: “The world could use a little more Brin.” A fair-weather service will be held, date to be announced.
