Tribute

Our sparky, joyful community friend Claudia transformed in the early morning hours, ending a long and difficult health journey with cancer. Claudia loved life, especially reflected in people; she loved the ocean and the beauty of the natural world. She always had a story ready and was quick to laugh. She had an adventurous life, rose to many changes and challenges and rose above many, many hardships. She was the daughter of predeceased Richard and Dorothy Winter and lived through the loss of three beloved sisters: Jill, Catherine and Dorothy (Betsy) Winter. Claudia is survived by her Ottawa siblings Patricia, Nancy, Charles, Sandra and Karen Winter. She leaves behind her son Todd and cherished grandchildren Stephen, Julianna, Rene, Patrick, Raymond, Elise, Francisco and Raphael. She also leaves behind her stepson Rick and many, many friends in numerous west coast communities. She spoke often of the loving kindness extended by home support and the nursing staff at Powell River General Hospital. She would want to warmly thank Doctors Ghali and Takhar (the best!) Lynn from hospice, her community of caring friends and adopted families of the heart here in Powell River, who shared their homes, their tables and their beautiful children with her. She would also acknowledge the love she received for many years as an honoured key volunteer at Powell River Family Place. Claudia will be sorely missed. Think of her as a butterfly, now flying free, and pray remember her in the colours of the ocean and the sunsets.
