Cornelia “Corrie” Vanderkemp (Vlug) passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2026.

A loving sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was known as Corrie to many, but to those who loved her most, she was simply Oma.

She built a life around the things that mattered most to her: family, home, good food, fresh air, and the simple comfort of being together.

Oma loved her home in Powell River and the life she made there. She found joy in the familiar rhythms of her days: her daily walks, preparing a delicious meal for someone she loved, gathering family around the table, and, if you were lucky, a slice of her infamous blackberry pie.

She had a sly and wonderful sense of humour, shaped by a deeply lived life. She knew both joy and hardship, and met the trials and tribulations of her years with remarkable independence and resilience. She found her own way through things, often quietly, and in doing so showed the people around her something about strength: that it does not always need to be loud, and that peace can be something we find and build for ourselves.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by the many people whose lives she touched.

A gathering to celebrate Corrie’s life will be held at a later date, with details to be announced.
