It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather. Darrell was born to Len and Mary Brinham and grew up in Ladysmith, BC where he played sports and excelled as a left-handed pitcher travelling to play in Anaheim, California in 1957. He began work at MacMillan Blodel Chemainus in 1960 and in 1963 he married the love of his life Valerie Read. In 1967 Stacy was born, in 1968 Darrell transferred to MacMillan Bloedel Powell River and in 1969 Lenni was born. In 1972 his parents moved to Powell River so they could have help to care for his Father who was suffering from dementia. Darrell was a family man who enjoyed gardening, drawing cartoons, baking bread and woodworking. He whistled while he worked and he worked most of the time. Retiring from the sawmill in 1997 Darrell and Val travelled to Hawaii, Mexico, across Canada and the US and spent time on the golf course. He loved being Papa to Ashley, Helen and Francis and he was the lap of choice for kids and dogs alike. Summers meant swimming, lawn darts, berry picking and laughter. In a life filled with women who adored him he was the undisputed king.

Predeceased by his parents and his sister Lenora Gilmour, Darrell also endured a decline from dementia and after almost 18,000 sunsets and countless hours of eagle watching from his chair by the window he spent the last year of his life as a resident of House Two at Willingdon Creek. Our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Burns and the kind community who cared for him there. While there will be no formal celebration he will be remembered with love by his family and friends.
