 ” A Life Well Lived “

With deepest sadness we announce the passing of “Red” Stigings at the age of 83. He leaves behind his wife Ginny, who was married to Red for 57 years, daughter Nancy (Brent) Dunlop and grandchildren Garrett and Cara. He was predeceased by his infant daughter Rachel and his parents Jack and Eva Stigings. Red was a lifetime resident of Powell River and a gifted athlete in his prime. In 1967 he experienced a life-changing industrial accident. This had a profound impact on his life. Through incredible strength, resilience and most times humour, he was able to overcome the curves life had thrown him. Red was forever an optimist. He loved his family, his dogs, his garden and his home by the sea. It was there he spent his last days with his loving wife and adoring daughter, and the hummingbirds that frequented his window. Red’s grandchildren were the light of his life and his spirit lives on through them. A private family service was held at St. David and St. Paul Anglican Church.

The best portion of this good man’s life is the little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and love. ~ William Wordsworth (1770-1850)

From: Travis McDonough
Relation: I played soccer with him on the Powell River Old Timers Soccer Club

Back in the late 70s and early 80s, I played on the “Old Timers Soccer” team at Cranberry Lake and Wildwood—every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. On one occasion, I believe at Wildwood, I had my son Chris with me. He was probably between 5 and 8 years old. He was near the goal during our warm up, and “Red” let go a really fast and accurate kick the caught Chris right in the forehead. Dr. Crossland was on our team, and he examined Chris and thought that he would be okay—he said don’t let him go to sleep, and if he starts to throw up, take him to the hospital immediately. Chris played for Villa as a teenager (later) and is now the head coach of Villa for the past several years. He and Tony Leach coach them. I remember that “Red” was a really fine soccer player. RIP dear “Red”.

From: Mike Cianci
Relation: Good friend and teammate

Red was one of the finest all around good guys I have ever met. Beginning in grade six at JP Dallas Elementary I played dozens of baseball, softball and soccer games with Red as a wonderful and very talented teammate.

From: kelly Dejong (McKenzie)

You have both come to mind, very often, over the years. I have some good memories of babysitting Nancy and Rachel. I remember Red as having a tender personality. God Bless you all, I will pray for Ginny ,Nancy and family
