Tribute
With great sorrow we mark the passing on May 21, 2012 of Derek Johnson.
Derek’s strength and humour will live on in the hearts of his partner in life and love Melany Hallam, parents Pat and Tom Johnson, brother Steve Johnson and the many, many friends and family whose lives he touched. Spouse, son, brother, son-in-law, uncle, nephew, cousin, Grubbert and best friend—we’ll always love you.
Memorial gathering will take place on Friday, June 1 at 1:30 pm at Stubberfield Funeral Home. Donations may be made to Myeloma Canada or the Bruce Denniston Bone Marrow Society in lieu of flowers.

To the family and friends of Derek,
I never met Derek yet I considered him a good friend. We shared many good times on an online chat forum for poker. We talked movies, art, music and, of course, poker. He was always upbeat, interesting and a warm and friendly presence.
When Derek first became ill, he started a thread on our forum documenting what he was going through. He always kept us updated on his health and made sure we knew what was going on with him.
We loved him for his incredible good humor, and amazing outlook on his fight was an inspiration to all of us.
Although we never met him in person, we all felt as though we did, and he was our friend. Derek will be missed by all of us.
Our very heartfelt condolences to those of you who did know him in life.

Like many others on twoplustwo, I admired Derek’s ability to face his illness with strength and humor. We all checked his thread frequently hoping that the next post would bring good news, but sadly that was not to be. I join with many other cyberfriends of “Merek” in offering my heartfelt condolences to all his family and friends at this difficult time.

I never had the privilege to meet Derek in person, only through his words posted “the lounge”. But, I still considered him a friend. The world was a better place with him in it. He will be missed.

I’ve been following Derek’s trek for the past two years on twoplustwo, and hoped like hell that it would have a happy ending. I’m sure by now you know that people from all over the world were rooting for him to pull through, and many that shed tears at his passing won’t find the words to share here.
He shared a lot with us, though.
And despite having many thousands of words and pictures to remember him by, I would like to have known him better.
RIP, Derek. You are missed.
