Derek Russel Poole

September 22, 1947 - May 11, 2021

Tribute

With heavy hearts, we announce that Derek Russel Poole peacefully passed away on May 11, 2021, Derek was surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Gibsons, BC, Derek devoted his life to Forestry and community service in Williams Lake and Horsefly. In his 20s, he worked as a hunting guide at Lowrys Lodge, embracing the beauty of the backcountry. He later transitioned into Ministry of Forests and found joy in ice fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, and capturing moments through photography, creating cherished memories for his family.
For nearly 50 years, Derek was dedicated to Search and Rescue, serving in various communities, including as a Search and Rescue Manager in Powell River, where he tirelessly helped others until illness took its toll. He was happy to return to the Sunshine Coast to work with BC Parks.
Derek is survived by his beloved wife Ella, with whom he shared 50 years, and their daughter Janeen. He was predeceased by his son Jason, who left us a year after Derek.
His adventurous spirit and kindness will be profoundly missed.
We love and miss you Dad
