Diane Gladys Lawn
April 22, 1946 - March 28, 2012
Tribute
Diane passed on peacefully, sweet and strong, with her family by her side on March 28. She was born in Newfoundland and moved to California when she was three. She grew up with her younger brothers Jim and Rob and sister Janet and embarked on her teaching career.
She returned to Canada in 1974 and met Stephen in 1976 while teaching in Ladysmith, BC. They moved to Powell River in 1978 and married. She gave birth to her two fine sons James and Michael in 1979 and 1981.
Her home life centred on her love for them, clearing land, her garden and her baby rabbits, lambs and dogs. She loved the beach, our travels and our boat explorations.
She resumed her teaching career in 1985. Her favourite period was her many years at Lund School working in the library and learning assistance. There her skills, enthusiasm and love of children, youth and literature had a memorable effect on many young lives. Later she moved on to the secondary level and continued her magic at Brooks Secondary School and Max Cameron Secondary School in the resource rooms and started the gifted program at the secondary level.
Our thanks to all her friends for their love and support through the years. Also to her support workers and friends at Olive Devaud Residence and Evergreen Extended Care Unit who loved and cared for her in later years.
If desired, donations may be sent to the Alzheimer Society of BC or the BC Coalition for School Libraries. A celebration of Diane”s life will be held at a later date.
