Donald Butters
October 22, 1958 - November 30, 2011
Tribute
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Alan Butters announce the sudden and tragic passing of our beloved son, brother and uncle on November 30, 2011.
Alan is survived by his father Tom (Lynn), his twin brother Ian (Vi), and sisters Kirsty (John) and Meg (Alan). He also leaves behind to mourn his loss, nieces and nephews Ryan, Allison, Ashley, David and Alicia. Alan was predeceased in 2002 by his beloved mother Margaret “Peg” Butters.
Alan was born in Camrose, Alberta, but the Butters family actually made their first home in Baker Lake, NWT, where he lived the first few years of his life, before making the long trek North of 60 to Inuvik. Alan would call Inuvik home for the next 20 years.
In the mid-1980s he moved “south” to live for a number of years in Slave Lake, Alberta, before heading west to the Pacific Ocean and the island of Texada, BC in 1991. He settled in the community of Gillies Bay and would spend the next 20 years there until his untimely death.
Alan will always be remembered for his sharp wit, irrepressible sense of humour, generous spirit, and his unfailing love of life. He will be forever held in the hearts of his family and many friends.
If we could have one lifetime wish
One dream that could come true
We’d ask with all our hearts
For yesterday and you.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held for Alan on Saturday, December 17, from 11 am – 2 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion, 2611 Legion Road, Van Anda, BC.
In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to the charity of your choice in Alan’s name.
