Donald Patrick Smisko
July 27, 1946 - February 26, 2013
Tribute
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Don at his home in Powell River, surrounded by family. Don was born to the late Pearl and Alex Smisko in Wells, BC, the youngest of three children.
He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years Marianne, sons John (Angela), Randall (Hayley), Jordan (Danielle), his beloved granddaughter Teagan, his sister Gloria (Bill) McKinnon, his brother Barry (Susan), and a large extended family.
Don was known by many as a school district employee for 26 years. He was an avid Powell River Kings hockey fan and volunteer, and loved to watch minor hockey. He had many interests, but during retirement he especially enjoyed riding his motorcycle in the sunshine, trips to the public library, coffee with friends, and painting with acrylics.
He was a quiet person who had a beautiful heart, a quick, sarcastic sense of humour, and a strong dedication to his family and friends. His granddaughter, Teagan, was the treasure of his life.

Dear Marianne, Jordie and family,
We were so saddened to hear of Don’s passing and you have been in our thoughts since the news arrived. Over the years we spent in Powell River we have fond memories of Don always at the rink, supporting whoever was playing. He was a champion for one and all, often a rare quality and appreciated by everyone. We saw his tremendous strength, compassion and ability to go to any length to support Marianne through her illness. We see these qualities in his three boys and we are sure they will carry on his legacy.
We will be with you all in spirit on Saturday. May you find strength in his memories and know that in time the pain will ease and you will find peace.
With Love,
Sandra and Jim

Hi Marianne, Darling…
I am thinking so much about you and your family this early morning knowing that it is Don’s memorial today. My heart is with you especially, but also with all of your fabulous family.
There is little that can be said to make you feel much better at this sad time. But, I am so glad that you have such the wonderful family that you do … with them around and with you yesterday, today and tomorrows too. This is the good stuff that you and Don put together.
Love Marcie

I just learned of Don’s passing while reading the Peak here in Ontario. I remember coaching Don’s son Randall in Minor hockey in PR. He was a great person and very dedicated to his family. And Yes, he did have that quick humour that I do remember. My prayers and thoughts go out to Marianne and the rest of the Family… Gord Adams, Kenora, ON
