Tribute

Born in Renfrew, Ontario, Earle James Holmes passed away peacefully in Powell River, BC on Wednesday evening, August 29, 2012 at the age of 94.

He was predeceased by Doris (nee Morrill) his wife of 44 years in 2006; daughter Judy; first wife Edith; and his sister Alma.

Earle is lovingly remembered by his grandson, Scott Fairhurst and wife Kim, great-granddaughters, Dawn and Jenna; granddaughter Kelli Roe and husband Russ, great-granddaughters Samantha and Sydney. He will also be sadly missed by his sister-in-law Maureen Redins, of Schreiber, Ontario; Caroline Morrill, of Pickering, Ontario; brother-in-law Dr. Bob Cowan, of Vancouver; numerous cousins, nephews and nieces, and very special caring friends and neighbours.

A retired mill worker, Earle spent most of his years since the 1950’s living in Powell River. He grew up in the Ottawa Valley and then began working in logging camps with teams of horses as a young man in Northern Ontario. Earle enjoyed working with horses and continued to shoe them well into his late 70’s. He loved animals, especially horses, dogs and cats and working outdoors. Earle will always be remembered by his wink and smile. He was a strong, yet gentle man, who was loved dearly, and will be sadly missed.

The family would like to thank Dr. Anne-Marie McGuire and the loving, caring staff of the Olive Devaud Care Residence for their special care and kindness.

Friends are welcome to meet at Earle’s home in Powell River on Wednesday September 5th, 6 -8pm to celebrate his life. A family gathering is to be held at a later date in Ontario, where Earle is to be laid to rest next to his wife, Doris.

If desired, donations in Earle’s name may be made to the Cancer Society or SPCA.
