I met Elizabeth and her husband Keith almost 40 years ago through mutual friends, the Sheltons. Elizabeth and I shared a number of interests: English literature, art history and a love of Greek and Roman classics. Elizabeth was a prodigious reader and had the most amazing memory! She appeared to have almost perfect recall of what she had read and was one of the most articulate people I have ever met. I miss Elizabeth, but am fortunate to have so many wonderful memories of our visits and phone calls. I’m so glad I was in Powell River during the week she passed away; she didn’t open her eyes during any of those last visits, but it was a comfort to hold her hand–how warm it was!– and to think of all the wonderful times that she and I and her other friends in Powell River had together for so many years. Rest in peace, Elizabeth; you will always be so very fondly remembered by your friends.

Elizabeth was my dear friend for twenty years. We spent a lot of time on the phone together and she was always had wise and sensible advice for me, especially when I was in a crisis. She was a great listener and totally non-judgmental I am grateful for her friendship. I remember visiting her on a Friday night and relaxing in her hammock while Pavarotti sang in the background. We both shared a passion for cats and poetry and often phoned to read a new poem. Her favorite poet was Pablo Neruda. Oh, Elizabeth, Because of you…..

I’ve known Elizabeth all my life, she was a wonderful person and will be missed! I am very sorry for your loss, Aaron, Jenny, Brendon, Vanessa and families. Hang on to the good memories, I am fortunate to have many of your mom, things I’ve learned from her as a child, I still use in my adult life today! XO

Relation: Our good friend, adopted grand-mother.
Elizabeth was my dearest friend for many years. She was a wonderful grand-mother to my daughter who adored her as we all did. A very classy woman who shared her deep love of art and literature with us. Elizabeth is deeply missed, we treasure the wonderful times we had with her.

Dear Elizabeth,
Although we never met since researching our family tree I’ve discovered you were a wonderful person I will forever regret not knowing. I remember your sisters Nora’s trip to Ireland fondly when I was a child. My Dad was happy to get to know and glad to see his Aunts Honora’s daughter.
It seems we had a love of reading, poetry and art in common. It’s amazing what the genes carry.
I’m sure you are resting peacefully now in the starry skies.
To Elizabeth’s family my deepest condolences.
Elizabeth adieu…. an excerpt from a Neruda poem for you…..
“to leave me at the shore of the heart where I have roots,
remember that on that day,
at that hour,
I shall lift my arms and my roots will set off to seek another land.”
