Elly Hewett

February 15, 1942 - January 22, 2018

Tribute

Elly Hewett February 15, 1942 – January 22, 2018 After a short but brave battle with cancer, it is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Elly. She is survived by her husband of 55 years John, daughter Debbie (Jerry), son Don (Dayna), grandchildren Ashleigh (Sean), Andy (Jodi) and Bradlee. Elly was also very proud of her great-grandchildren Jaxon, Annika, Maddie and Avery. She will also be missed by her brothers Boyd and Allen, sister-in-law Betty, brothers-in-law Allan and Jim and their families. Mom will be remembered for her outgoing nature, quick wit and her love of knitting that she shared with everyone. We will celebrate Elly’s life at a later date. Life’s journey isn’t to arrive at the grave safely, in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, hands in the air shouting, “That, was a hell of a ride!”

So sorry, John, to read of Elly’s death. Such a shock to me, and a difficult time for you. It’s not easy losing one’s spouse, friend and soulmate at one fell sweep. I have gone through it, so I sympathize with you at this dramatic change in your life.My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family

Dear John, Debbie, Don and family;
I was so sorry to hear of Ellys battle with cancer. I do hope she didn’t suffer much pain. Her passing will be a great loss for all of you and her many friends.
Elly was a true friend and I treasure all the memories of our time spent together. Leaving our friendship, when I moved from Powell River, was harder than leaving my marriage.
I’ll never forget the smell of bread baking, needles clicking, her paceman diet and her wonderful laughter. Her stories of coming to Canada and making friends by amazing them with her skill at juggling. But the best stories were when she spoke of her family. Her face would light up, the pride and love would shine through and we’d drink another coffee.
Till we meet again my friend.
