Evelyn Reeves
January 12, 1919 - February 19, 2015
Tribute
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Evelyn Amanda Reeves on February 19, 2015. She is survived by her loving daughter Shirley Hansen of Edmonton, Alberta, much loved grandchildren Diana (Mark) Blair, Gary (Janice) Hansen and Ken Hansen, greatgrandchildren Trevor, Nicholas, Kristen, Evan and Andrea, all of Edmonton, as well as many nieces and nephews in BC and Alberta. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband Percy in 1973, son-in-law Neil in 2013, grandson Keith in 2003 and brothers Roger and Alcide Houle.
Evelyn was born in Little Falls, Minnesota on January 12, 1919. Her family travelled to the Westlock area of Alberta in 1922 via a 1919 McLaughlin Buick where they farmed for many years. Evelyn decided to travel to BC in 1945, where she met and married Percy Reeves in Vancouver. They moved to Powell River in 1946, where they joined other family members.
Evelyn was a hard worker who spent many hours in her garden. She also enjoyed sewing, making dozens of quilts over the years. These were given to family and friends and those lucky enough to pass her way. She enjoyed a good game of scrabble and liked going to Lang Bay Hall for card games.
On coming to Powell River, Evelyn first went to work at the Fiesta Restaurant, followed by Willingdon Furniture and finally retiring from Coast Paving.
The family wishes to thank her long-time physician Dr. Toole and more recently Dr. M. Meyer. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to the staff of Olive Devaud Residence. Your love, care and attention to Evelyn for the last five years gave us great peace. You became family for her and us, loving her when we weren’t able to be there. We will never forget your generosity of heart.
At Evelyn’s request, a private burial has taken place. If anyone so wishes, donations in Evelyn’s memory can be made to the charity of their choice.
