Frances Elizabeth (Betty) Burnett

April 28, 1941 - February 7, 2014

Tribute

Betty is survived by Frank, her devoted husband of 54 years, her three sons Gordon (Margaret), Lionel and Glenn (Antonietta) and four grandchildren Crystal, Trevor, Tara and Cory who were the light of her life and loved dearly. She is also survived by her brother Bob (Pat) Lewis, and their children Stella, Nola and Marlo Lewis. She was especially close to cousins Reg, Terry, Murray, Darby, Rod, and Kevin Lewis, who she babysat and tormented on their dairy farm in Wildwood, being the only girl growing up in a family of boys.

Born to Sid and Doris Lewis, Betty spent her early years in Chilliwack before moving to Powell River. She was a tomboy who enjoyed baseball, curling and bowling, passing on her love of athletics to her sons and grandchildren.

Frank and Betty married in 1960 and were never apart, raising their boys and spending their life in the house they built together, welcoming anyone who came through the door with their generous hospitality. Hard working and versatile, Betty did everything from bookkeeping to shake packing at Frank's mill at Haslam Lake and canned countless jars of preserves every fall. She loved her cabin on Powell Lake, where she spent many happy times with family and friends, spending summers there with her boys turning them into card sharks and teaching her children and grandchildren how to swim.

Betty will be remembered for her feisty spirit and no nonsense approach to life, her generous hospitality, and as the person who kept the extended family connected. She was a second mom to many a youngster, and her pies, jams and jellies found their way to many lucky recipients. We will miss her sneeze that could scare you off your chair if it took you by surprise, and her deep, devoted and unconditional love for her family.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank Dr. Rossouw, Dr. Takhar and Dr. Rojas for their exemplary care, and the 4th Floor Staff at the hospital for their professionalism and compassion during Betty's final days.

~ I loved you all to the very last ~
