Tribute

Hans Peder Pedersen, the last of his siblings, has passed away, just shy of his 97th
birthday.

Hans is survived by his three daughters Helena (Pete), Rita (Eirian) and Jana, six
grandchildren Esme, Gitte, Emma, Nathan, Ben and Kirsten, and many nieces,
nephews and extended family in Denmark. He was predeceased by his wife, Marie,
of 55 years, in 2013. In Denmark he leaves behind his three nieces: Hanne, Lene and
Karen, and three nephews: Lars, Jesper and Ole, their children and their children’s
children.

Hans was born in Skelby on the Island of Falster in Denmark. He was raised on an
oceanside farm, that was built and developed by his family. He traveled back to his
family home many times, keeping up with local news on friends and neighbours.
He survived WWII, actively involved in the Danish resistance movement during
German occupation of Denmark. After WWII ended he worked in Norway in a home
for orphaned children. While in Norway he was offered work in Canada. He started
out his Canadian adventure logging in Manitoba, but after one cold winter took
advice to move as far west as possible. He arrived in Vancouver in April 1952, was
interviewed for work with the Powell River Company after lunch, boarded the boat
to Powell River, arriving at supper time and started work that evening. He has
treasured his life and friends in Powell River.

Hans was very close to his family, valued family and family time together. He was a
kind, loving and generous partner, father, uncle and friend. He was genuinely
interested in hearing stories others had to tell, was fiercely independent and
showed exemplary gratitude when he was in need of help and help was offered.
