Heather June Parkhouse

June 12, 1943 - March 21, 2017

Tribute

Heather passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 21, 2017. As promised, she lived to see the first full day of spring. Heather was a devoted mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and those who knew her well. Born in Prince Rupert in 1943, Heather grew up in small towns and logging camps with her parents and three siblings John, Mary and Nancy. She had a passion for travelling and visited more than 20 different countries throughout her lifetime. Whether it was cruising the South China Sea with her husband or visiting Disneyland with her grandchildren, she made every trip special with whomever was lucky enough to be in her company. Heather was also an outdoor enthusiast and loved backpacking, specifically through Southeast Asia and China; she went many times with different friends and family. She took delight in mountain biking and skiing, and was an avid member of Powell River Hiking Club and Myrtle Point Golf Club. Furthermore, she enjoyed the arts such as painting and knitting. Through example, Heather instilled a lust for life within her grandchildren and taught them to enjoy life to the fullest. Heather worked as a cook in logging camps and at Olive Devaud Residence. She was also a storekeeper/businesswomen, farmer and volunteer at Powell River Hospital Auxiliary. Heather is now with the love of her life and husband of 45 years Gordon “Gordo” Parkhouse, who predeceased her by 13 months. They will be laid to rest side by side at 11:30 am on Saturday, June 24 , at Powell River Regional Cemetery. Anyone is welcome to attend. Afterward, there will be a gathering from 12:30-2:30 pm at Town Centre Hotel. The family would like to thank Doctor Dohm for her constant compassion, skills and caring heart throughout the last few years, staff members at Extended Care Unit for their kindness and dedication to Heather’s care, Penny White and the late Mary-Lou Vella for their devoted support and friendship. It’s hard to forget someone who gave you so much to remember.
