I consider myself a friend of Abe’s. I owned a men’s wear store in Powell river and got to know Abe over the years as he would come in and buy clothes from me. He would tell me stories of his time in service, his younger days in Hamilton, especially his cab driving stories about the mob and police relationships. He would phone me from Vancouver when he was undergoing his cancer treatments. We only talked a few times when he returned to Powell river. When he was better we said we would drive up to Lund for a beer and chips. Sometime in the summer I will fulfill that date, drive up to Lund and have a beer in his memory. I am the only person who knows what he did for the kids in Powell river at Xmas. 3 or 4 years ago he told me he wanted to donate money to a charity that would help kind. I arranged that he donated every year. The organizers just called him Santa, they know of his passing and had a moment of silence and said a prayer in his name. That was the softer side of Abe. I hope the family gets to read about his dedication to helping the kids from Powell river. His friend, keith anderson
