Tribute

Joan Doreen Makowichuk (nee Lackey) passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at the Powell River General Hospital.  She was 89 years old.

Joan was predeceased by her parents Elsie (1993) and Jim (1991), husband Victor (1995), daughter Brenda (2004), her brother Robert (2001) and sister Margaret McClelland (2017).

Joan is survived by her children Peter, Carol (Stewart) Mortenson and Mark, grandchildren Dawn Marie, Cody, Matthew, Toni, Randi and Christopher as well as many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  She is also survived by her beloved sister Barb Watts, brothers Brian (Betty) and Dennis (Diane), brother in law Brain McClelland and her dearest and best friend Anna Scott.

Vic served 25 years with the Canadian Armed Forces in Air Force Safety Systems and they were stationed in many Bases across Canada.  Joan was also in the Army and later in life they spent six years as Commissionaires in Vancouver.

Joan moved to Powell River in 2002 and became an active member in the Senior’s Citizens Association of BC, Branch #49.  She thoroughly enjoyed the soup and sandwich luncheons and was extremely active playing Bridge, Whist, Cribbage, Canasta and Scrabble.

Over the years she kept in touch by telephone with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren – she loved everyone.  She will be missed.
