Joan Mary Schmitz (née McCarron)
August 23, 1926 – November 24, 2010
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Joan Schmitz on November 24, 2010. Joan was a Powell River resident since 1965, most recently of Evergreen Extended Care. She was predeceased by her two brothers Ralph and Gerald, survived by her twin sister Jean and her sisters Diane and Patricia. Joan leaves behind John, her loving husband of 52 years, her children Debbie, Lisa (Brad), Linda (Mark), John and Bill (Tamara). She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Dean, Jessica (Matt), Graham, Natasha, Heather, Mikayla and Izabella.
Joan lived a full and blessed life. She was extremely quick witted, loved her church, poetry, reading, writing and spending time with her family and many friends. Prayers will be offered on Monday, November 29, 2010 at 7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at 1:30 pm at the Church of the Assumption. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Evergreen Extended Care Unit through the Powell River General Hospital Foundation.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Burns and the wonderful caring staff at Evergreen Extended Care who made her last few months enjoyable and comfortable, a true home away from home.
