Tribute
John “Buster” was born in Mountain Park, coal branch of Alberta. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy and was posted to Halifax where he met his wife of 47 years Sheila. After discharge they moved out west until they reached the Pacific Ocean. They raised their children Brian (Donna) and Jill (Clay) Howey who now live in Vancouver with their children. After retirement John supported Sheila as they travelled around the United States while she worked doing Occupational Therapy. He maintained his interest in the military volunteering as an Army Cadet Officer for many years. Later he was the repair technician for the Red Cross Loan Cupboard.
He is predeceased by his brother Donald Thirwell and is survived by his brothers Lawrence (Diane) and Bradley (Adina). After several years of breathing difficulties he is now breathing freely with his Lord.
A service will be held on Saturday, December 10 at 2 pm, at Powell River United Church.
