May 18 1948 – October 24, 2016
John grew up in Castlegar the son of John and Maisie Dalziel. His gift of storytelling came from his parents. Spending time with John meant being entertained by stories and jokes
John is survived by his wife Laverne, daughter Katie, and brother Robin (Chris)
John loved teaching and worked for 25 years at Malaspina College (now VIU). He taught math, computers, and sciences. He worked with colleagues on various committees and was up for the challenge of explaining the mysteries of math to his students.
A big part of John’s life was his faith and church family at Kelly Creek Community Church. He preached many sermons and was involved in the kid’s club at Kelly Creek. As well he initiated a non-denominational Bible Study that has been going for many years. A year after retiring John sustained a spinal cord injury. His faith allowed him to see this not as a curse but another opportunity to learn new things, meet new people and minister to others differently. The past 7 years he taught us courage and determination from his wheelchair.
Grateful thanks to John’s amazing caregivers, the home-care nurses, ICU and emergency room nurses, Dr. Morwood, Dr. Jensen and the many doctors who have cared for John over the past few years
