Tribute

Ike passed away at age 76 in Powell River on June 27, 2013 with his loving wife Christine by his side. He will be forever loved and missed by his four children Trevor (Sharon), Stacey, Nishelle (Calvin) and Dereck (Jennifer) and their mother Carol Behan; Christine’s three sons Andrew (Hayley), Jonathan (Angela) and Richard (Tiffany) Carriere, all of Campbell River, grandchildren Chelsea, Kane, Kyle, Taylor, Tom, Miranda, Austin, Braxton, Madison, Shae-Lynne, Calum, Kaylee, Amaya and many nieces and nephews.

Ike was the oldest of 16 children and is survived by five sisters Stella (Butch) of Prince Rupert, Carmella of Bathurst, NB; Jeanette of Bathurst, NB; Lilianne (Keith) of Burlington, ON; Yolande of Alberta; his six brothers Gerard (Nicole) of Bathurst, NB; Norman of Allardville, NB; Clifford (Liette) of Allardville, NB; Gerald of Allardville, NB; Ernest of Allardville, NB; and Donald of Alberta. He was predeceased by his parents Leo and Aline Guignard, four brothers Leonard, Lionel and two named Francis of Allardville, NB.

Ike was born May 26, 1937 in Allardville, NB and at the age of 23, while working in Cochran, ON, he met John Trepanier and his wife Simone and their four-year-old daughter Jeanine who were about to journey west, because John said “BC is the place to be.” They asked Ike to join them. Ike’s intention was to head back to New Brunswick but he changed his mind and put just his power saw on the train back home and embarked on a westward adventure. He also offered a hand to many of his siblings, opportunities for a better future to come out west. Ike was never afraid of hard work or a challenge. His extensive resume ranged from logger, barber, commercial fisherman, property manager and businessman.

Ike gave of himself to community initiatives such as the Powell Forest Canoe Route, Seafair, Blackberry Festival and Open Air Market. Music was an integral part of his life. He became an accomplished violin, guitar and mandolin player. Through his fiddle tunes he kept his Acadian heritage alive.
