Tribute
Our father, Joe, passed away peacefully in his home after a brief battle with cancer. He was predeceased in 2011 by Margaret, his loving wife of 60 years, and by his brothers Walter, Alvin, Stanley, Michael (infant), Steve and Tony. Joe is survived by his sons Garry and Terry (Christine), daughters Lynda (Murray) and Laurie (Bruce), grandchildren Jennifer, Andrea (Michael), Kevin (Leanne), Laura (Mike), Cameron, Tiffany, Adam and Craig, great-grandsons Linden and Rylan, as well as his sisters Olga, Elizabeth, Nellie, Lee and Jane.
Dad was born in Rabbit Lake, Saskatchewan, and began his career as an orderly in Saskatchewan. In 1963, he accepted a job in Powell River and started working as an orderly in the hospital. He eventually switched his career to the maintenance department and retired after 30 years of service at the original Powell River Hospital. He was also an auxiliary member with the RCMP, an ambulance driver and had a few other part-time jobs that helped with raising his family.
Everyone who knew our dad would have a story to tell. He was everything from a jokester to a gentle soul. He was a wonderful father, husband, grandpa and brother and a beloved brother-in-law and uncle. All of us will miss him.
The family would like to thank Dr. Andreae and the palliative care nurses for their kindness, compassion and attentive care of our father.
At Joe’s request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, a donation in memory can be made to Powell River Hospital Foundation—information can be found at prhospitalfoundation.com—or a charity of your choice.
