Tribute
Kathleen McKenzie Franzen July 7, 1920 – February 17, 2018 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Kathleen McKenzie Franzen. She was born in a small town of Sandwick in the Shetland Islands to parents Catherine and Thomas Anderson. At the young age of nine, Kathleen and her family immigrated to Canada, landing in Quebec City. They visited family in Montreal before travelling by train to meet her grandmother in Vancouver. After spending two months living on Hernando Island, her family moved on to Powell River, where she married and raised her family. Kathleen devoted her life to being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a friend to many. She was a member of the Powell River Chorus and Powell River United Church Women, and a lifetime member of the Powell River Health-Care Auxiliary and Order of the Eastern Star. She spent many hours volunteering during her younger years. She is survived by her sons, Grant (Lorraine), Jeffrey (Deborah) and her daughter Carole (Ernie) Gross. Kathleen is survived by her very devoted sister Betty Berger and many nieces and nephews across Canada, the United States of America and Spain. She was predeceased by her loving husband Rueben in 1996, her brothers Thomas Anderson (Ottawa), John Anderson (New Denver) and younger sister Jean Martin (Burnaby). She will be lovingly remembered by her three grandchildren Jeff Franzen, Mark Franzen and Shona (Scott) Ferros, and her two adorable great-granddaughters Elle and Charlotte Ferros. Special thanks go out to all the medical personnel who have given Kathleen such amazing care over the last several years, including staff of the former Olive Devaud Residence, and more recently Evergreen Care Unit. A memorial service will be held at a later date. An announcement will follow. Arrangements trusted to Stubberfield Funeral Home.
