Lawrence Wilfred Metham
May 19, 1935 - February 1, 2013
Tribute
It is with heavy hearts and sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Lawrence Metham, who passed away at home peacefully in his sleep. Lawrence was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and is survived by his partner Barb Beech, children Debbie and Ray of Powell River, brothers Joey (June), Lenny (Polly), sister Jean Duffy, nephew Billy and many more nephews, nieces and relatives of Nova Scotia and many friends on both coasts.
Lawrence was predeceased by his wife Claire, mother Annie, father John, brothers Bobbie, Eddie, Stevie and sister Marie.
Lawrence started work at 16 as a labourer in a lumber mill in Fall River, Nova Scotia and then worked at HMCS dockyard office for a year. At 18 he enlisted in the Air Force and served for 21 years attaining the rank of Master Corporal and retired in Calgary, Alberta in 1973. He moved his family to Powell River, making their home in Wildwood, and started work at the MacMillan Bloedel Mill until he retired after 23 years around 1996. Lawrence was a family man, loving and generous, with a big heart, a great sense of humour and always a lending hand. Lawrence was a volunteer fireman with the #4 Wildwood Firehall for about 19 years. He loved a good joke and a good time and was often the life of the party. Through the years he loved to garden, fish, hunt, camp, dance, bowl, play crib, cards and Keno. If you ever visited the mill’s store department or heard a joke or had a stranger come up to you and say “Have you heard the one about…” then you’ve probably met Lawrence.
Knock knock. Who’s there? Boo. Boo Who? Boo Hoo. We’ll miss you. We love you.
Barb, Deb & Ray
