Leslie Bakan
September 5, 1936 - June 5, 2012
Tribute
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Leslie Bakan after a short battle with cancer. Les was born in Murakeresztúr, Hungary. In 1956 he emigrated to Quebec and worked there for 10 years in a mine. Then, in 1971, he came to BC to work in the Texada mine, and later at the Powell River Mill.
He had many hobbies including photography, hiking, travelling, birding, and playing cards, especially bridge.
He will be missed by his stepdaughter Claire in Quebec, brothers Imre and Jozsef, his dear cousin Babi, niece Ilona and other nieces and nephews in Hungary, and by many friends and coworkers in Powell River.
Thank you to Dr. B. Schweitzer and the nursing staff for their excellent care, to Claire who was in the hospital with him in his last week, and to Hospice volunteers and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, June 25 at 1 pm at the Alano Club, 5903 Arbutus Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations to the SPCA (bird fund) would be appreciated.
