Louis MacDonald Legall

August 2, 1935 - November 26, 2021

Tribute

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Louis MacDonald Legall on November 26, 2021. He was predeceased by his mother Vida Odessa Legall, father Conrad Oliver Chase, two sisters Ometa Gittens and Dorothy Thompson, two brothers Westland and Lester Chase, and grandson Marcus Haynes.  He is survived by his wife Eudora Legall; sister Velna Clarke (Bill); children: Margot Legall, Patrick Haynes, Jocelyn Haynes, Shelly Haynes-Marrelli (Frank Marrelli) and Deborah Haynes; grandchildren: Shayna Springer, Eileen and Natasha Haynes, Amber Deforge, Kala Cinnamon (Jesse), Romario Marrelli, Azaariah Marrelli, Isaiah Marrelli and Champion-Ella; great-grandchildren:  Jakob Cinnamon, Anastasia Deforge and two more living in Barbados.

Louis was born on August 2,1935 in Barbados, West Indies.  He was a man who was always full of energy.  He lived his life to the fullest!  His strong work ethics began at a young age as a tailor until he transitioned to working in the Barbados health care system as an Orderly. On immigrating to Canada in 1970, he continued to work in the health care system in Vancouver and in Powell River. Louis drove the ambulance, and he worked in the housekeeping department until he retired from the Powell River General Hospital.

After Louis retired, he continued to work and volunteer helping others, especially seniors, to do landscaping (cut lawns, gardening, etc.). As an avid gardener, he grew a variety of vegetables and fruit which he shared with family and friends.  He loved to travel, and despite suffering a stroke in 2011, which left a slight physical challenge, he continued to visit relatives across Canada and in Barbados until 2018 when his GP cautioned against long-distance travel. Louis was truly an extrovert! His friendly, approachable demeanor attracted many and his love for music and dancing often contributed to him being the last one to leave the dance floor! He truly loved to socialize, and will be remembered for his annual back yard birthday barbecue, his love and care for his family, and wearing a t-shirt with a message that sparked a conversation.

Louis was raised as an Anglican in Barbados. He worshipped in Powell River at St. David and St. Paul church almost every Sunday.  He loved to sing praise to our God and connect with the congregation.  During the COVID pandemic he continued to worship via zoom.

Many thanks to all the people in Powell River and beyond who were a part of Louis’ life.  Much gratitude and grace to Dr. Martin Andrea, Harvie Medical Clinic, and all the wonderful health care professionals that work for Vancouver Coastal Health who provided such excellent care to Louis.  Words alone can’t begin to express how we feel.

May He Rest in Peace.
