Margery Carol Perfitt

September 11, 1937 - February 16, 2021

Tribute

We are very sad to announce the passing of our dear mother, Margery Perfitt, at the age of 83 years. She died peacefully with her family at her side. Margery was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, to Dick and Mabel Roberts, and had two siblings, Ron and Roberta. When she was about three years old, they all moved to BC and settled in Powell River. Margery married Don Stephens in 1957. They had three children together: Sherry (Hawkins), Danny (Stephens) and Patti (Anderson). Unfortunately, in 1969, after 12 years of marriage, Don tragically died in a work-related accident and Marge was left to raise their children on her own. Despite this huge challenge, she continued to support her children and they enjoyed a wonderful childhood growing up in the home Don built on Richmond Street. Margie remarried in 1979 to George Perfitt, who had three grown daughters of his own: Ruth (Perfitt), Louise (Scott) and Georgina (Perfitt). They enjoyed 41 years of marriage and many adventures together. Their summers were filled with fun up the logging roads, camping on lakes and spending time at the family cabin on Dodd Lake. In 1997, Margie and George moved to Texada Island to live on a large piece of property with their dog Obbie, enjoying the many benefits of rural living, socializing with friends and excursions on their 4WD quad. We can all remember Margie sitting on the back of their quad in her “queen seat,” cruising around the back roads of Texada and Powell River. After 13 years of living on Texada, they moved back to Powell River to be closer to their families. Mom also enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting and quilting over the years. She was a great cook, but will be especially remembered for her wonderful Christmas baking. She loved to travel, whether it was in a camper on the back roads of BC, on a cruise ship, in a plane or in a car driving across Canada and the USA. Marge spent many hours playing cards with various groups of friends, whether it was whist or canasta, or a game of bingo, she enjoyed them all. She loved eating out with her family, especially the weekly lunches with her lifelong friend Ann. Marge was a kind, loving and generous lady, with a beautiful smile, and was always willing to help others. She will be forever loved and in our hearts. Margery will be missed by her large extended family, including her husband, their children, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. She never missed an opportunity to see and connect with loved ones any chance she could. Mom felt very fortunate to live at Kiwanis Assisted Living. She especially enjoyed greeting all her fellow residents as they passed by her table on their way to the dining room. Mom received excellent care from all the staff, who always went the extra mile. We are so grateful. A special thank-you goes out to the doctors, nurses and staff at Powell River General Hospital for their kind and compassionate care of our mom. You all went above and beyond to keep her as comfortable as possible in her final days, and to you we are forever indebted. As per Marge’s wishes, there will be no service.
