Maria Ochenduszko A funeral for the late Maria Ochenduszko will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, April 4, at Church of the Assumption. Prayers will be held at 7 pm on April 3.

December 7, 1921 – March 23, 2018 It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our mom, Maria Ochenduszko, at the age of 96. Maria was predeceased by her husband Stanislaw. She is survived by her daughters Theresa (Tony) and Sophia (Wayne), her grandchildren Sadie, Nicholas, Danika and Colin, and her sisters Aniela and Veronika. Mom was born in Zagorzyce, Poland, and had four sisters and two brothers. During World War II, mom left Poland to work on a farm near Krefeld, Germany. After the war, she left Germany on a boat called the Marine Falcon and landed in Halifax in April, 1948. From Halifax she travelled by train across Canada until she reached Vancouver, where she worked first as a domestic and then as a nanny. Mom and Dad married in 1950 and resided in Riverside until they bought their house in the Townsite. Mom was a deeply religious person who felt most at peace while praying. She also loved to garden and spent endless hours weeding, tilling the soil and planting vegetables. She was a very hardworking, kind, thoughtful and generous person who always shared what she had with others. Mom was also known for her famous jokes, which brought many a smile to so many faces. Mom, we all love you and miss you so much.
