Maria Wasylka (Vioet) Rusnak

August 28, 1937 - April 30, 2025

Tribute

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of  Violet Rusnak, who

passed away on April 29, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on August 28, 1937, in

Yorkton, SK, she will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her. She was

predeceased by her beloved husband, Nicholas Rusnak, and her daughter, Donna

Ladyka.

Vi was a true entrepreneur and had a remarkable zest for life. Over the years, she

and her husband bought and ran the Westview Hotel for several years. Vi also

ventured into the world of sports as a part-owner of a hockey school for a few

seasons. Her entrepreneurial spirit further shone through her operation of a deli on

Marine Avenue, the beach hut at Willingdon Beach, Sound Attraction, and a food

shop at the Saltery Bay ferry terminal. Beyond her business ventures, Vi was an

active member of the Powell River Ukrainian community.

She also had a deep love for her family, and nothing brought her more joy than when

everyone was together. She showed her love through food and cherished family

dinners, often becoming emotional with happiness when her loved ones gathered.

Even as her mobility decreased, she would still make her way around the kitchen,

eager to contribute and care for everyone. She was known for her positive spirit and

unwavering belief in others. Christmases were always a special occasion, filled with

generosity and fun. She went above and beyond to make the holidays memorable,

including the much-anticipated Boxing Day shopping trips.

She is survived by her loving sons, David and Dan; her grandchildren, Joshua, Kelly,

Clayton, Alicia, and Jesse; and her great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Hayden, Tanner,

Georgia, Dayden, Thierry, Noah, and Millie. In accordance with Vi’s wishes,

cremation will take place. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten. The family

will have a celebration of life in the future when we can all come together.
