Michael John Hill

October 3, 1937 - December 8, 2016

Tribute

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Hill in Powell River, BC.

Mike was predeceased by his parents Jack and Dorothy and his brother Wayne. He is survived by his wife Lee, daughters Lisa (Ron) Racine and Tricia (Bob) Alexandruk, stepchildren Jen (Rob) Crawford and Rory (Nicky) Guenard, grandchildren Kendra and Alyssa and step-grandchildren Britt, Talia and Colin.

Mike was born and raised in Powell River, where he resided for all but the few years he spent in the United States Navy. Mike’s working years were spent on the MacMillan Bloedel wharf, where he worked as a longshoreman.

Mike loved the outdoors and especially loved the years of retirement that he was able to spend working with the BOMB Squad building trails and bridges around Powell River. He was an avid golfer and loved to play baseball. He was a Mason and had been involved in the local Masonic Lodge for the past 43 years.

When he was not outdoors, Mike enjoyed playing cards and watching his Boston sports teams. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye and they enjoyed countless ice creams, card games, diving for loonies and many other surprises he would come up with. He would often make long drives to arenas, gyms, soccer or ball fields to watch them play ringette, hockey, baseball, soccer, basketball or volleyball; he enjoyed them all.

Mike will be missed by many and has left many reminders that will always bring a smile to our faces.

A celebration will be held with the date forthcoming.
