It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Warrington, who died peacefully in Powell River, British Columbia, on Tuesday, June 23, after a courageous journey with Alzheimer’s disease. Throughout his journey, Peter was surrounded by compassionate care, and our family extends immeasurable respect and gratitude to the medical professionals at qathet General Hospital, Evergreen Extended Care, and Willingdon Creek Village.
Peter was born on September 28, 1940, in Derbyshire, England, to Peter and Lucy Warrington (née Gorst). He was a caring older brother to his dear sister, Christine. In 1966, he married the love of his life, Susan, and together they shared sixty years of marriage, raising a close and loving family of four children.
Peter is survived by his devoted wife, Susan; his children, Sally (Christopher), Simon (Larissa), Joann (Patrick), and Robert (Charlie); his ten cherished grandchildren, Natalie, Christopher, Sofia, Lucie, Eva, Delia, Alex, Paul, Benjamin, and Thomas; and his four beloved great-grandchildren, Hannah, Charlotte, Cora, and Nola.
An avid adventurer throughout his life, Peter found joy in the outdoors and spent countless days hiking and exploring the natural world. He was a proud member of the Nottingham Climbing Club, where he formed many lasting friendships and pursued his passion for mountaineering.
In 1976, Peter and his family emigrated from England to Canada, building a life first in Vancouver and later in Calgary. During his years working at SAIT, Peter developed friendships that remained important to him throughout his life. In retirement, he and Susan made their home in Powell River, where they were embraced by a wonderful community of friends who became an important part of their lives.
Peter will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his love of family, his quiet strength, and his appreciation for the wonders of nature. He leaves behind a legacy of curiosity, resilience, and love that will continue through the generations that follow. Please enjoy this collection of photographs celebrating Peter’s remarkable life. I worked with Peter just before he retired from SAIT. His office was next to mine. I have wonderful memories of Peter, with him talking about his past and sharing his experience on teaching digital electronics and hearing stories about working on the first vacuum tube computers that used a CRT for memory. He was such a good person and colleague. I’m glad that he was fortunate enough to live decades past his initial health scare. I am sorry for his passing but at the same time, happy that he was part of my life for that short while. RIP Peter.
