It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Warrington, who died peacefully in Powell River, British Columbia, on Tuesday, June 23, after a courageous journey with Alzheimer’s disease. Throughout his journey, Peter was surrounded by compassionate care, and our family extends immeasurable respect and gratitude to the medical professionals at qathet General Hospital, Evergreen Extended Care, and Willingdon Creek Village.
Peter was born on September 28, 1940, in Derbyshire, England, to Peter and Lucy Warrington (née Gorst). He was a caring older brother to his dear sister, Christine. In 1966, he married the love of his life, Susan, and together they shared sixty years of marriage, raising a close and loving family of four children.
Peter is survived by his devoted wife, Susan; his children, Sally (Christopher), Simon (Larissa), Joann (Patrick), and Robert (Charlie); his ten cherished grandchildren, Natalie, Christopher, Sofia, Lucie, Eva, Delia, Alex, Paul, Benjamin, and Thomas; and his four beloved great-grandchildren, Hannah, Charlotte, Cora, and Nola.
An avid adventurer throughout his life, Peter found joy in the outdoors and spent countless days hiking and exploring the natural world. He was a proud member of the Nottingham Climbing Club, where he formed many lasting friendships and pursued his passion for mountaineering.
In 1976, Peter and his family emigrated from England to Canada, building a life first in Vancouver and later in Calgary. During his years working at SAIT, Peter developed friendships that remained important to him throughout his life. In retirement, he and Susan made their home in Powell River, where they were embraced by a wonderful community of friends who became an important part of their lives.
Peter will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his love of family, his quiet strength, and his appreciation for the wonders of nature. He leaves behind a legacy of curiosity, resilience, and love that will continue through the generations that follow. Please enjoy this collection of photographs celebrating Peter’s remarkable life. To Dear Sue and all your family, such mixture of grief and joy for a life with Peter. In all my life I have never met a more jovial, uplifting soul. And when I met Sue I knew they were two the same, touching family and friends far and wide, graciously opening their hearts and home to all. I echo Peter’s last words to me how the SAIT Electronics times were among the best in life – helping and sharing at work yet including family and friends. Your shock at Peter’s illness on his retirement turned into a deeper faith and sharing with so many beautiful years to follow in nature and at Powell River. For us at SAIT, his encouragement toward outdoor activities was an amazing gift. Our river raft trips, back country hiking Rockwall, sea kayaking Desolation Sound are my most treasured. I will never forget Pete producing his crazy Canada Day flag and getup, hollering cheers while floating down the Kootenay river. A life well lived and celebrated. I’m sure there is another Mount Lady McDonald for you up there. Good job, Pete.
How I would love to be out there for the celebration Sue. If not remember you are forever loved as is all you have shared.
