Ralph Curtis Bernard Schindeler
Ralph passed away September 16, 2010 with his family at his side at the Powell River General Hospital after a long battle with illness. Ralph was born March 9, 1930 in Settler, Alberta. He moved to Powell River with his family in 1947 and remained here for the rest of his life. Ralph was predeceased by his mother Signe, father Clement, sisters Elaine and Ivy and his son David. Ralph is survived by his wife of 59 years Margaret, daughter Georgia (Mark) Riggs, son Lee, granddaughters Milena and Carmen Devito, great-grandsons Caleb and Ben, brothers Al (Doris), Fred (Darling), sister Mable and many nephews and nieces. Ralph will be sadly missed by his family and many friends and colleagues. Ralph worked at the Powell River Mill for 39 years and was active in the union for most of them. He started as a shop steward and was president of Local 76 for many years. He was also a trustee for the pulp and paper pension plan for many years. He was a dedicated trade unionist.
His sport was curling and he loved to play cards. He also loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing at every opportunity he had. Up the coast at Bute Inlet was a favourite with us all and will be his final resting place along with his son David.
There will be a memorial service on Saturday, September 25 at 1:30 pm at St. David and St. Paul Anglican Church at 6310 Sycamore Street.In lieu of flowers please give to the charity of your choice or to the Powell River Stroke Recovery Club.
