Robert (Bob) Briggs

Tribute
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Bob after a battle with cancer. Bob was born in 1938 in Rosetown, Sk. In 1948 he moved to Viking, AB where he graduated from VHS and started his love of hockey. In 1956 he moved to Powell River to play for the Regals, in later years he played Old-Timers hockey with the Regals. He was also offered a job with the Mill as a papermaker, and lived in the Firehall and was a volunteer fireman. Later he took up diving as a sport. After taking several commercial diving courses he opened Powell River Divers in 1969. He dove all over the province until he retired in 2001.
In his retirement he enjoyed time with his extended family, gardening, mushroom picking and playing Santa. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and all of the “Briggsism” over the years.
Bob is survived by his first wife Joan and their children Steven(Kristin), Dawne and Darren: his wife of 27 years Lorna and her children Pam, Wanda and Wade(Kristy). He is also survived by his brother Don(Patty), five sisters Joanne(Bud), Wilma(Darcy), Alana, Michelle, Gina and numerous grandchildre, nieces and nephews. Bob will also be missed by extended family and many friends.

I was too ill to attend Bob’s celebration at the Carlson Club today but on behave of all us older working Divers may I express my sincere condolences to your entire family. I was very proud to have met Bob. It is a small community we were a part of and Bob was one of those true gentlemen we were fortunate enough to sometimes cross paths with.
I hope you do not mind but I took it upon myself to re-post Bob’s obit on a world web site for commercial Divers.
