Tribute
November 21, 1924 – January 8, 2019 It is with great sadness we announce Dad’s unexpected passing. Dad was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the navy. After the war, he spent a couple of years in Langley with his parents before they all made the move to Powell River. After working a few different jobs, he landed in the paper mill, where he spent most of his 39 years in the shipping department. Dad will be remembered for being a very hardworking man, for his compassionate and caring nature and his sense of humour. He loved to socialize and share a joke with people and was always humble and kind. Dad is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years Pearl, his son Dallas, daughter Shirley, two grandchildren Maranda (Bob) and Rob (Alicia), as well as many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. The family is grateful to Dr. Marentette, Dr. Tinmouth, Dr. Loewen, Dr. Watson and Dr. Gregory, as well as the nursing staff who cared for him at Comox Valley Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Comox Valley Hospital Foundation, Powell River Hospital Foundation and to a charity or cause of your choice. A private graveside ceremony will be held at 11 am on Friday, January 18, at Powell River Regional Cemetery in Cranberry, with a tea to follow at the (last) house Bob built. A celebration of life will be held from 1 pm to 3:30 pm on March 2, 2019, at Cranberry Seniors Centre.
