Robert Joseph Ovila Cote
May 10, 1954 - November 10, 2025
Tribute
It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Ovila Cote. He was welcomed into heaven on Monday, November 10, 2025 in Powell River, surrounded by love and family.
Born in Malartic, Quebec, Robert spent his early years there until his family relocated to Powell River, BC in 1971. At age 17, he faced the challenge of completing his final year of school in a new language – an undertaking he met with determination, proudly earning his graduation.
Soon after, Robert began his career with MacMillan Bloedel in the sawmill. His strong work ethic and dedication led him through several roles within the company before finding his place in the TMP, where he remained until his retirement at age 55. Not one to sit idle, Robert went on to work alongside his sister as a tax professional at H&R Block for another decade before officially retiring – this time for good.
In 1975, Robert married Susan Haase, and together they welcomed three children: Shawna, Crystal and Wade. In 1989, following the end of his first marriage, Robert married Donna Herie. Together they had a daughter, Tina and he also lovingly helped raise Donna’s daughter, Rose, from her previous marriage.
Robert was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, son and friend – a steady, loving presence in the lives of those around him. He was our safe place, someone we could always turn to for comfort, wisdom or laughter, without fear of judgment. His calm spirit brought peace to every room, his joyful heart made everyone feel welcome.
He cherished time spent outdoors, especially fishing trips with his brother and camping adventures with his children and siblings. Robert’s love of games – golf, table tennis, darts, cornhole, crib, backgammon, poker and nearly any card game- was legendary. Whenever family or friends gathered, there was sure to be friendly competition, often with a Loonie on the line, just to keep things interesting.
Family meant everything to Robert: he delighted in his children and grandchildren, cherishing every shared moment. In his final days, his greatest wish was to be home surrounded by his loved ones. His grandchildren – Olivia, Hanna, Jordyn, Mya, Gage and Darla – were the lights of his life and he never missed a chance to shower them with hugs and kisses at every opportunity.
Robert was predeceased by his beloved mother, Louisette, and his older brother Gerald. He is survived by his father, Normand, his children, Shawna (Terry), Crystal (Jared), Wade (Amy) and Tina (Dustin), his brother Daniel (Diane), sisters Lyne (Ken) Guylaine (Ron) and Chantale (Gary), his grandchildren, extended family and many friends whose lives he touched with warmth, joy and love.

Always a place in my heart, the father of our children. Deepest condolences for my kids who dearly miss their Dad, and to our 5 Granddaughter that we are both so proud of, your Grandpa will be watching every milestone. Your graduations, dance recitals, weddings etc. The last time we spoke I told him I couldn’t say goodbye. He said, talk to you later. I leave it at that. Rest in peace Rob.
