Robert MacDonald

September 10, 1921 - October 12, 2018

Bob passed away at Powell River General Hospital on Friday October 12, 2018. He was born in MacGregor, Manitoba, on September 10, 1921.
He spent most of his school years in the area of Edson, Alberta, and the Alberta Coal Branch. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces and spent five and a half years overseas in Europe. He met his wife Frances soon after returning to Canada and they spent their working years in the oilfields of Alberta and Saskatchewan. After retirement, they moved to Powell River to be with family.
Bob was active in the Royal Canadian Legion in every community they lived in. He volunteered for many building fundraising committees to raise skating and curling rinks. He loved to coach hockey and emphasized good sportsmanship.
Left to mourn are his daughter Nina, her husband Gary Mussellam and grandson Brian (Megan), and three great-grandchildren Gabe, Joanna and Georgia; also his brother Archie and nieces Joanne and Karen of Edmonton, his sister-in-law Betty Lou Weir of Edmonton, three nephews Doug, Bruce and Rob, and niece Laurie Laberge of Hinton, Alberta.
A service will be held at the United Church on Saturday, October 27, at 1 pm. Donations to Powell River Hospice Society are welcome.

First met Bob in Swan Hills, he helped our coach at practice (1972). Bob and Fran were good friends of my parents, have a picture on our wall cross country skiing at Terratima (1978). What an amazing couple they were, gave so much of themselves to everyone that knew them. Thanks so much for the fond memories! Jim and Anita Gamble.

Cheryl and I would like to send our condolences to Nina and family. Bob was a wonderful guy and friend. So kind! One of our last veterans of the Italian Campaign in World War 2. “At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.”

My thoughts are with your family. My father enjoyed his many visits with Bob discussing the old days in Edson Alberta and the Coal Branch. They shared stories of the past and their love of sports.
