Ruth Irene Mattick (née Ralph) Ruth was born on June 8, 1917, in Irma, Alberta. She passed away peacefully at Evergreen Care Unit in Powell River on March 6, 2018. Ruth celebrated her 100 birthday last summer surrounded by family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Bill in 1999 and her son Stephen in 2011. Ruth was also predeceased by her twin brother and soulmate Richard Ralph, sister Louise Cranston and brother Tom Ralph. She is survived by her daughters Vicky McClennon and Georgina (Gordon) McCubbing, five grandchildren, eight great-grand children and three great-great-grandchildren. Ruth loved living in Powell River and spent many happy years raising her family in Cranberry Lake. She loved all animals, especially the poodles that led a charmed life. Gardening, reading, art and crafts were some of her favourite pastimes. She excelled in knitting and spent countless hours designing sweaters for all the family and many of her friends. Ruth was a very skilled bridge player and pity the person who was not her game partner. She loved chatting on the phone to family and friends near and far as she was genuinely interested in keeping the ties that bond. Ruth was one of the founders of the Cranberry Library and volunteered many hours to cataloguing, sorting and mending books. She was also instrumental in saving “the rock” at Lindsay Park at Cranberry Lake. Ruth was loved and respected by all the family. She was our “rock” and we will all miss her dearly. Yes, Mom, you were a very good person. There is no service at this time but a family gathering to celebrate Ruth’s life will be held on her 101 birthday.
