Stanley Norman Plisson
April 3, 1926 - March 31, 2021
Tribute
In loving memory of Stanley Norman Plisson (April 3, 1926 – March 31, 2021). Predeceased by his sister Annette Creelman and brother-in-law Jim as well as son Gary Plisson. Left to mourn are Stan’s wife of 72 years Sheila Plisson, son Doug (Elizabeth), daughter-in-law Laurie, grandchildren Jennifer (Jackie), Kim (Scott), Brent (Stacey), Joey, Kelsey, and great-grandchildren Alessa, Cowan, Seth, Rhys, and Makenna.
Stan spent his earliest years on a farming homestead at Olsen’s Landing up Powell Lake. His family moved to Cranberry when he was still quite young where he enjoyed outside adventures with friends.
A WWII veteran, Stan served as a guard at a POW camp in Monteith, Ontario, as well other locations in Ontario and Saskatchewan.
In the 1960s, he was one of the organizers of the Agriculture Association for the Fall Fair – one of the biggest Powell River events of the day. He liked socializing. In the earlier years, they’d clear out their kitchen and have dance parties. Later, he and Sheila regularly hosted annual Boxing Day parties for staff and friends.
In his early teens, he got a job delivering newspapers and he developed an interest in the newspaper business. He asked his friend Stewart’s dad, Al Alsgard, for a job at the Town Crier (later the Power River News) in Cranberry. He loved the newspaper business, operating the linotype machine and working his way up to Manager, remaining with the Powell River News for his whole career. He was known for his skillful trouble-shooting — like the time the press broke down with a bang and he got the paper out and on time by arranging delivery of the plates to a Port Alberni press to be printed and returned the same day.
Stan enjoyed a long and well-lived life. He loved the outdoors: hunting, fishing, boating, camping, going up in the bush, and picking mushrooms. There were many a memorable hunting trip, the earlier ones taken in their camperized Volkswagen van. He and Sheila travelled to Britain, New Zealand, Hawaii and trips closer to home in their fifth wheel to Nevada, Arizona, and all over the BC Interior.
The family wishes to thank Stan’s doctors and the doctors, nurses and staff at Powell River General Hospital, as well as the homecare and hospice workers for their kindness and care. No service will be held at this time due to the pandemic restrictions.

Truly remarkable man who started at the bottom of weekly newspaper production at the Powell River Town Crier and retired at the top as publisher Powell River News. A great community citizen, family man and friend. Bravo Zulu Stan.
