Tony McCann

August 31, 1943 - July 23, 2017

Tribute

Tony passed away peacefully at home exactly one month from the time he discovered he had cancer.

Tony was like a toasted marshmallow…crusty and gruff on the outside and tender hearted, full of love and compassion on the inside. His kindness knew no bounds. He often drove hundreds of miles out of his way to be sure a stranger got home safely during severe prairie winter conditions. Shared whatever he had with whomever needed it and was ever ready to help his neighbours. He was the “wind beneath my wings”, always encouraging me to follow my dreams. He was always astounded to realize he was loved and admired by all those who knew him…he really had no idea what a magnificent person he was. He inspired everyone.

Tony was predeceased by his parents, Joyce and Tom; his two newborn babies, Kirk and Jodie; sister, Francis and her husband Al; brother, Danny and 6 months ago, his beloved mother-in-law, Ruth Allan.

Left to celebrate Tony’s life are his sister and brother, Olive (Eloi) Fortier and David (Rita) Tough; his loving wife, Lynn; children: Tina, Wanda, Shawn and Laura (Dereck) Quinn; grandchildren: Tony McCann, Patricia Pirart, Amanda (Tyler) Farvolden, Alex Wujcik, Shelbie and Caige Quinn and the delights of his life, his two precious great grandbabies, Bennett Quinn and Addisyn Farvolden. Also left to mourn Tony are his extended family and friends.

We are very appreciative of the tender care Tony received from his team of palliative caregivers and Dr. Rossouw. You made his last days as comfortable as possible.

By Tony’s request, there will be no funeral service. A family gathering will take place at a time yet to be determined.

Flowers gratefully declined.

Lynn, I know I already said it, but our deepest condolences on Tony’s passing. Your description of him is absolutely spot on, gruff and intimidating on the outside but man, what a warm, wonderful and caring human being who worked so hard.

From: Curtis Jr Omeasoo
Relation: Family Friend

My deepest condolences to Tina and Patrisha and the entire family he was truly a wonderful man many great childhood memories hanging out in Powell River during summer months he will be missed by many but never forgotten

From: Norma Sorensen
Relation: Friend

What a perfect and fitting description of this man. He was one of those rare people who was exactly who he claimed to be and didn’t understand one bit how special that made him. He had a heart of gold and once said something to me in passing during a particularly dark time in my life that I am sure he promptly forgot. That little thing helped me immensely and I will never forget it.
My heart goes out to Lynn and the rest of the family. There are never the right words to say.
