Tracey Alan Edkins
September 4, 1953 - March 1, 2018
Tribute
September 4, 1953 – March 1, 2018 It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Tracey. He was a father to three surviving children: Rhea, Rene and Glen Edkins, as well as a grandfather to four grandchildren. Many people in Powell River knew Tracey; he was a resident of the community for many years. He worked and retired from the mill, where he was a millwright for the majority of his working life and continued on in the shellfish and fisheries industry after he retired. His parents in South Africa predeceased Tracey and he has a surviving brother Jack and his family who reside in South Africa. Tracey and his wife Ann came from South Africa to BC and chose Powell River as their home then settled and became citizens of Canada to raise their family. Tracey served in the Rhodesian military before moving to BC and was very proud of his homeland. Two of his children were also born in South Africa and one was born in Whitehorse, Yukon. He and his wife also lived in Cassiar, BC, before moving to and living in Powell River. Tracey spent the last few years with his closest friend Cheryl. He will be honoured and missed by Cheryl and her family members who became a part of his life. His son Glen was at his side during his passing and his two daughters were able to visit him in Vancouver as well as in Powell River in the recent months. Many thanks to the Powell River medical community, all of the doctors, nurses and home care people who came to know Tracey. They were very supportive and became fond of him in this last part of his journey. At Tracey’s request there will be no service and, in lieu of flowers, a donation toward a hospice house and the hospice society would be greatly appreciated by Tracey and his family. Support from hospice is greatly needed for the people in the community and was very appreciated by Tracey and his loved ones. Tracey will be missed with sorrow and loving memories by his family and the lives he touched. One of his many sayings and words of wisdom was, “People don’t change, they just become better versions of themselves.” Rest in peace now, from all of those who knew and loved you.
