I am so sad to hear of Vernon’s passing. Vernon and I met in 1991. I was Vernon’s manager during the time he worked for then , Centra Gas. I have never met any one who worked harder than Vernon. He was an inspiration to us all. Every one he came in contact with left feeling a littel better for having spent time with Vernon. Both he and Joan were fantastic, warm caring and thoughtful people. I learned a great deal from Vernon and his wise ways of dealing with customers and I wil never forget him. My deepest condolences go out to Vernon’s family. He will be missed.

We are sending our condolences and sympathies to the family of Vernon Ball (Vern). We cherished our friendship with Vern and Joan and will miss them both.
We first met Vern and Joan at the home of a common acquaintance in Powell River. In the years after we became friends with Vern and Joan, Vern would describe his first impressions of our dinner as being surrounded by some sort of whack-o zealots. We recalled the same thing.
It wasn’t long before we became good friends as there are not a lot of whack-o zealots around and we had to stick together. We shared a number of common interests with Vern, which included boating, camping, dining, hockey, wonderment at the human condition, and great humor. We became very good friends with Vern and Joan during the years we spent in Powell River. We left Powell River in 2002 and stayed in touch by annual visits, holiday cards and email jokes. We did get up to see Vern after his initial stroke and were so pleased to find that Vern retained his memory of friends and family, feistiness and sense of humor.
We shared a lot great times with Vern and have lots of fond memories. As you know, he was never without a joke.
We were so very sorry to hear of Vern’s passing and want to let you know that Vern, Joan and all his family are in our thoughts. He was one of a kind and will be dearly missed by us and many others.
With much love

Relation: A long time friend
I knew both Vern and Joan for many years. They always included me in on holidays when I wasn’t able to spend them with my family. I house sat and took care of their animals. We had many good times out on the water, fishing and boating. I was a tenant in a house they purchased for a rental, and they built a very comfortable place for me to live. I still reside in the suite. I feel very lucky to have had the chance to be a friend to both of them. I am blessed to have so many happy memories and I will cherish and never forget them. My prayers and thoughts go out to their families. In lasting love for them, Christine Nichols
