William (Bill) Sketchley
May 25, 1928 - March 9, 2018
Tribute
Bill Sketchley was born in Quill Lake, Saskatchewan on 25 May 1928. He grew up during the Depression on the prairies and his family then moved to New Brunswick on a homestead. Bill worked in a paper mill and made enough money to buy an Indian motorcycle. He biked across Canada, eventually following his Uncle Dick and Aunt Mabel ( Richard and Mabel Roberts) and family to Powell River.
Bill stepped off the streets into the Powell River Company (Mac and Blo) office and worked as a pape maker for over 40 years.
Family was the focus of Bill’s life and he married the love of his life, his girl, Bertha, whom he shared over 62 wonderful years with.
Bill spent his last year of life in Evergreen Care Unit surrounded by new friends and family.
Bill is loved by his family who will miss him terribly. Bertha, Ivan (Kelly), Deborah, Donna. Grandchildren Brian, Lauren (Andre), Clayton, Conor, MacNeil, and Shea. As well as three special children; Bret, Brinley and Hilly. Cousins, nieces and nephews throughout Canada and the USA. Brothers Charles (Ellen) and Raymond (Heather). Sisters Eveline and Shirley.
The family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the Evergreen Care Unit staff, especially the Activity people, and Dr. Schweitzer. Along with his regular visitors and two people who added to his enjoyment, Patti Anderson and Elaine DelGuidice. In addition, a particularly special thank you for the friendship of the Bill ‘s at his table .
No service. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Evergreen Activity Program or a charity of your choosing.
