William (Bill) Stewart McCullough

November 27, 1950 - April 26, 2021

Tribute

It is with great sadness that the McCullough family announces the sudden passing of Bill McCullough, on April 26, 2021. Bill was born November 27, 1950, in Powell River and lived most all his life there, though in his last few years he spent considerable time on Vancouver Island with his step-daughter Michelle Beaupre and her family, where he delighted in getting to know his young grandchildren, Hunter and Samantha. A gentle and kind man, Bill valued family. He never missed a McCullough family get-together, and each year at Christmas, he liked to send specially chosen cards to individual family members. Seemingly born knowing how to build houses and fix cars, Bill’s skills emerged at an early age. He built derby-winning soap box vehicles, completed complex woodworking projects at school in industrial arts, and souped up cars for cruising and drag racing—including a 1928 Ford Model A. His talent in carpentry led to building a home for each of his two marriages, as well as a 45-year career as an independent contractor building and renovating houses. His lifelong experience earned him Red Seal Certification in carpentry. Bill enjoyed fishing, snow skiing, and travelling—an East coast cruise culminating in New York City was particularly memorable. His enduring passions, though, were for renovating old cars, the beach, and his dog. He loved car shows and collected the odd old car intended for restoration. Daily walks on the beach nourished him; he loved watching the waves and his dog running free. Bill had several dogs in his lifetime, but the last was his late German shepherd, Kona. May Bill and Kona rest in peace. Bill McCullough was predeceased by his parents, Margaret and Ian McCullough. He is survived by his sisters Vicki (Randy Goulding) of Vancouver BC and Wendy (Michael Gladu) of Powell River, and brothers Ken (Barb) of Powell River, Donald (Tam) of Kitimat and Haida Gwaii BC, and Laurie of Ladysmith BC; his two sons with his first wife Marilynn, Ramon (Tammy) of New Westminster BC and Richard (Heather) of Powell River, and his step-daughter from second and former wife Kathy, Michelle Beaupre (Philip Price) of Courtenay BC; grandchildren Hunter, Samantha, Joseph (Olivia), and Baillie, mother of great-grandchildren Delaney and Oakley; and seven nieces, two nephews, three great-nieces, and three great-nephews. There will be no service; the family held a private ash-scattering ceremony.
